Could Miami Trade a Player that Would Surprise You?

With the NFL trade deadline approaching and the Dolphins’ season not going as everyone would have liked, the conversation over the next few weeks will be about who Miami will look to trade to acquire future draft capital for the next rebuild.

There are already reports out from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network that a few teams are very interested in acquiring Dolphins EDGE rusher Bradley Chubb.

Many expect the Dolphins to get calls on EDGE rusher Jaelan Phillips as well.

Matt Judon may also draw interest from other teams.

Judon and Phillips are in the final years of their contracts and are unlikely to return to Miami next year. Chubb’s contract balloons after this season, indicating he will be released.

So, if any of them are let go, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to Miami Dolphins fans.

The question is, though, could there be other players on this team that Miami may get phone calls asking who they traded and what would surprise you? Or maybe even upset you if they moved them?

I think there are, and before I go any further, I know some of you are screaming you do not want Chris Grier to make any moves. Well, if he is selling off players for future picks, it’s not like he can break anything.

Now, whether he is making those selections in next April’s draft is another story. But that is a different conversation for a different day.

Here are some players whom Miami may receive calls on.

Jaylen Wright: He is clearly the odd man out in the Dolphins’ backfield now. He has no role, and if the Dolphins end up signing De’Von Achane to an extension, he has no future in Miami. There are a lot of running back-needy teams, Kansas City and the LA Chargers, to name just two. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Miami get a few calls on the 2nd year speedy running back.

De’Von Achane: Speaking of Achane, yeah, don’t laugh at this. After this season, he has only one more year on his contract. He will likely seek a substantial payday, comparable to or exceeding the one James Cook received. If he doesn’t have that next August, he will likely hold out in training camp until he gets it. Is the Miami Dolphins organization willing to pay an undersized running back that kind of money? Will his body hold up for years moving forward? Achane probably would fetch a decent pick in return, and if a team makes a solid offer, the Dolphins have to listen.

Zach Wilson: A few quarterbacks have gone down this season, and it seems like one (or two) go down each week. Zach Wilson has no future in Miami after this season. Would a team give up a late 6th or 7th round pick for him if they lose a starter? I could see it happening.

Minkah Fitzpatrick: Well, he wanted out of Miami last time because he didn’t like the losing. He is only tied to Miami through the 2026 season. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Dolphins got calls on a veteran safety who could maybe be the missing piece to a contending team.

This is all speculation, of course, and I am not going to break out my crystal ball and make a prediction.

But is there anyone that Miami could trade that would surprise you?

Honestly, I don’t think there is.

And while all the attention will be centered around Chubb, Phillips, and Judon, maybe teams have their eyes on someone else on Miami’s roster that we don’t see coming.

I don’t see Miami making 4 or 5 trades, but they may make two. If they decide to hold onto someone like Phillips in hopes of re-signing him before he hits the open market, one of these other names could be moved.
