The New England Patriots addressed one of their primary needs this offseason.
They signed former Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs and completed a blockbuster trade for Philadelphia Eagles star A.J. Brown.
On the surface, with these new additions, it seemed that they didn't need Stefon Diggs anymore.
However, former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak thinks that might not be the case. At least, according to his sources.
When talking about Diggs' future with the team on his "Zolak & Bertrand" show, Zolak claimed that his sources inside the organization said there's still a way he might be back.
“We may have to chest bump for that one again,” Zolak said.
“What did you say earlier, they lack depth?” Bertrand replied. “I’ll tell you what, it would solve that problem…Don’t throw the jerseys away just yet.”
While not spectacular, Diggs had a solid first season with Mike Vrabel's team. He was Drake Maye's primary pass catcher and amassed 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.
The Patriots cut him loose mostly for financial reasons, although his legal issues may also have played a role. However, Diggs has been acquitted, so that shouldn't be a part of the equation anymore.
Of course, Diggs would probably be third in the pecking order after Brown and Doubs, but given how much the passing game struggled in the playoffs, that might be just what Josh McDaniels' offense needs to get back to the final game of the season.
