Cowboys 2026 offseason should start with 3 simple things

The Dallas Cowboys 2025 season is finally over, and if you watched any part of that game yesterday, we got reminded once again that Dallas has the worst defense in football.

Nonetheless, now that we can stop worrying about football games, we can focus on how in the world the Dallas Cowboys can clean up the issues that held them back this season.

Look, these three ideas are MY thoughts. You don’t have to agree with me, and that is okay. Just comment on what you think they should do instead now the offseason has started for them.

No need to call me an idiot, or that I have no idea what I am talking about, but take a look at the three things below that should be the first order of business for the Cowboys now that they are officially in offseason mode.

Fire Matt Eberflus

I mean this is a no-brainier; this front office has got to fire Matt Eberflus. I did not think that it could be worse than Mike Nolan in 2020, but here we are.

In the loss to the Giants yesterday, the Cowboys’ defense, for the first time in franchise history, surrendered over 500 total points in a season.

Did you see the play at the end of the first half in the game yesterday? It was 3rd and 16 from the 30, and yet somehow the Giants scored a touchdown on a flip screen play when the Dallas defense had SEVEN players near the guy who had the ball.

I mean, I understand that the personnel of the defense is a huge issue as well, but the man calling the plays for them is putting them in horrible positions to make plays.

Some of these calls make no sense at all, and the first thing that should be done, hopefully, this week or the next, is sending Eberflus packing.

Re-Sign Three Players

Jadeveon Clowney was one of the bright spots for the Dallas defense in 2025, and he ended the season with a solid game yesterday, at least in the first half against the Giants.

He finished the season with 8.5 sacks in only six starts and played in 12 games. Clowney did not even sign with the team until week four. One of the first things they need to do is find a way to get Clowney to sign another one or maybe a two-year deal at a decent price.

Jadeveon Clowney is creating a league-wide market for himself with his performance in Dallas this season — especially in Week 18.

Stephen Jones better sign him on flight home.

Now for the offense, clearly the offense needs to work on the red zone issues, but they had few issues this year and Jerry Jones needs to find a way to bring both Javonte Williams and George Pickens back.

Williams is the more likely of the two to return to this team because Pickens played himself onto a very large contract this season. The front offense will probably put the tag on him, but will he play on it? No.

We will see how fast the front office moves on any of these, but I don’t expect to see anything until like March.

Less Talk More Work

If we are being honest, the simplist thing that should be done by Jerry Jones is talking less and more working.

Stop telling us every single year the team has a season like this that changes will be made, and you will do a lot of work in the offseason, just to give us nothing but garbage again.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones when asked if this could be one of the most important offseasons for Dallas in a long time: “I think we can do some things to maybe make as dramatic a difference as we could have in a long time.”
