It is only preseason, but there is a familiar feeling sweeping the Dallas Cowboys after Saturday's 31-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, with Brian Schottenheimer's team looking less than impressive in their two preseason outings.
Injuries have been a common theme for the Cowboys all throughout training camp, so Schottenheimer's team, while wanting to put good things on film in preseason, also wants to get to Week 1 with a relatively clean bill of health.
But at AT&T Stadium, the football gods had other ideas.
On what was a dour performance, especially offensively, for the Cowboys, with Joe Milton struggling and the run game looking so-so, now comes the news of something potentially yuck to receiver Jonathan Mingo.
Milton and Mingo connected on a 49-yard bomb in the second half, but Mingo was forced off the field after the play due to injury and didn't return.
Now, we know why.
Per ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys believe that Mingo suffered a PCL (posterior cruciate ligament) injury to his right knee, with an MRI scheduled to determine the extent of the damage.
Archer also stated that Mingo - acquired last year from Carolina at the trade deadline in exchange for a fourth-round pick - could need time to recover" and for a receiver room that has battles going on everywhere, with Jalen Tolbert the next up behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens and Kavontae Turpin, the question marks will continue. ...
Though now someone might get the opportunity of a lifetime with Mingo's injury.
So, a poor preseason loss, and many questioning exactly how the Cowboys get better before Week 1, now the injuries are starting to mount for coach Schottenheimer.
His newfound culture is already being put to the test and the regular season hasn't even started yet.
Welcome to the head coaching ranks, Brian.
