Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb stripped of captain title by teammates

The Dallas Cowboys have money concerns with their wide receiver room. Still, it remains one of the best in the NFL. However, all is not rosy in Jerry’s World, as CeeDee Lamb was stripped of his captain title by his teammates, according to CowboysWire.com.

“(Quarterback Dak) Prescott is the sole designation for the offense, meaning that after sporting the C for all of 2025, Lamb is no longer one of the offense’s captains,” KD Drummond wrote. “Whether or not this is a significant development is in the eyes of the beholder. But with the front office continuously chirping about their inability to pay top dollar for both Lamb and wideout George Pickens beyond this season, it’s an interesting change. To be clear, this isn’t a coach’s decision. The players vote on the captains each year.”

Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb still earning respect around the league

The seventh-year veteran is ranked No. 33 on ESPN’s list of the top 100 players in the NFL.

“Lamb can set a Cowboys record with a sixth straight 1,000-yard season,” Todd Archer wrote. “With Lamb alongside George Pickens, the Cowboys have one of the best receiver duos in the league. But his biggest concern is health. Lamb missed three games with a high ankle sprain a year ago. And he dealt with a shoulder injury most of the 2024 season. As Pickens gains more attention, Lamb is still a No. 1 receiver who can be a matchup nightmare all over the formation.”

There’s already talk of how long Lamb and Pickens can co-exist with the Cowboys, according to NBC Sports.

“I don’t know of any teams that really can pay two top receivers top of the market,” Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones told the DLLS Cowboys podcast. “So that’s gonna be a real difficult situation as we move forward. We’ve managed to figure out how we can do it for this year. If everything works out the way we think it is, [and] CeeDee and George both have huge years again, then it’ll be a bigger challenge next year.”
