Cowboys continue to make flabbergasting decisions at running back with latest controversial decision ahead of Week 10

Ahead of their Week 10 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Cowboys announced they aren't elevating running back Dalvin Cook to the gameday roster.

Per NFL rules, this would've been the last time the Cowboys can elevate Cook as a practice squad player, which means the table is set for him to be promoted to the 53-man roster next week. However, the team is instead elevating cornerback Josh Butler and wide receiver Jalen Cropper.

Thus far, Cook has had a limited role with the Cowboys offense, with only eight rush attempts for 20 yards in two games played. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has insisted on giving running backs more carries before evaluating them, so chances are he'll still be given attempts despite a low 2.5 yards per attempt average.

However, where the decision to not elevate the four-time Pro Bowl running back is most flabbergasting is in the fact that it's yet another vote in favor of Ezekiel Elliott over him. First and foremost, Elliott's numbers aren't much better and he was just disciplined last week for disciplinary reasons due to "habitual tardiness" and multiple missed meetings. It's hard not to wonder how that sits with the locker room.

Regardless, backup running backs might not see many carries headed his way as the season goes on, considering Rico Dowdle is playing so well he'll probably force the coaching staff out of its running back committee approach to the position.

Last weekend, Cook had two carries to Dowdle's 12. The Cowboys' running game has been mostly stagnant this year, but Rico's angry style of running has yielded results, going for 75 rushing yards and a 6.3 average per attempt. He's also stepping up as a pass catcher, as he hauled in five catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.

Dak Prescott not going to Injured Reserve just yet

The Cowboys opted not to place Prescott on IR leading up to the game, but they're still expected to, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. If placed later, he'd need to miss four games all the way up to Week 14. He'd be eligible to return until Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers.
