The Dallas Cowboys head coaching search has them zeroing in on an in-house candidate in Brian Schottenheiemer.
With Robert Saleh, Kellen Moore, Schottenheimer, and Leslie Frazier all getting interviews with the Cowboys, "Schotty" is the only one to get a second interview.
We think we can read the tea leaves rather well here.
It does seem that barring something big happening, that Schottenheimer, who is cut from the same coaching cloth as Mike McCarthy, is looming to be his successor.
Yes, we can go on about Jerry Jones' plane crash of a "solo mission" and the fact that everything about this "search" screams a scramble from the front office, but now it feels very real that Schottenheimer will be the head coach.
So, what's next?
As DLLS’ Clarence Hill is noting that Dallas is nearing “the finish line” on the hire …
Some fans will turn their back on the team in an attempt to get Jerry to change his ways, but that TV money, folks, will keep rolling in while others are trying to see any positive they can in the hire.
Is it the hire the Cowboys needed? TBD. Does the hire inspire positivity for the 2025 season? Likely not. Will Schottenheimer's position as head coach and possibly play-caller benefit the team? TBD.
All of that's a tough thing for some to see right now.
Look for the Cowboys to cross the finish line on hiring Brian Schottenheimer no later than Friday, possibly today

It's not a hire that will inspire change, as the same course of action that has netted the Cowboys absolutely zero will continue to be the direction the team follows.
Cowboys Nation has every right to be upset, angry, disillusioned, and furious at how unserious this coaching search has been and what that represents for the franchise.
But now fans might need to get used to the idea of Schottenheimer as head coach when there were clearly other candidates that at least deserved a phone call.
Now, we are not slighting Schotty here. It's a head coaching job in the NFL, only one of 32 in the world, so we don't begrudge him for taking it, but more so be upset that he is "the" choice for Jerry and Stephen Jones.
This is where the Cowboys are: The finish line to some … rock bottom to others.
