Cowboys' Dak Prescott slams critics questioning Mike McCarthy's job security

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott doesn't want to hear anybody say Mike McCarthy could be coaching for his job during the Monday night wild-card playoff game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"It's comical in a sense," Prescott said about the situation, as shared by Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun. "First, what, back-to-back 12 wins in y'all tell me how long and we're talking about a guy's job in jeopardy? That just shows you when you play for this organization what comes with it and why it's important to create these walls around us, create this safe place in our locker room, and understanding what matters is the men that go out there and get in between the lines and put the work in throughout the week for us to go out and win."

As Prescott mentioned, McCarthy's Cowboys have won 12 regular-season games over each of the past two campaigns, and the 2021 edition of the club claimed the NFC East championship. However, Dallas proved to be a one-and-done playoff team last January thanks to a loss at home to the San Francisco 49ers. Shortly after that defeat, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones hinted he wasn't all-in on McCarthy, but Jones eventually kept the 59-year-old employed.

Jones said earlier this week that he has "got a lot more to evaluate Mike McCarthy on than this playoff game" and that he has "complete confidence in this coaching staff." History suggests Jones' tune could change depending on what occurs at Raymond James Stadium on Monday evening.

Sean Payton spent three years working for the Cowboys before he became a Super-Bowl-winning head coach with the New Orleans Saints and is taking interviews with other teams. Quarterback Tom Brady could lead the Buccaneers to victory over Dallas and cause Jones to consider making drastic changes this winter, especially if Brady truly is interested in teaming up with Payton for at least the 2023 season.
