Cowboys' Dak Prescott Speaks Out On Running Back Uncertainty
Kirby Lee-Imagn Images

One thing we know about Brian Schottenheimer's Dallas Cowboys is that they will be running the football, but what we don't know is who will be doing the running.

With a group of Miles Sanders, Jaydon Blue, Deuce Vaughn, Javonte Williams, Phil Mafah, Hunter Luepke, and even KaVontae Turpin, there are ample candidates to take reps in 2025.

But if you are thinking that Schottenheimer's offense is going to be one bell cow, well, think again, because all backs could be seeing the field at one time or another throughout a game.

And that excites Dak Prescott.

“I think that is fun, honestly, and each one of those guys would probably say the same and appreciate the competition,” Prescott said. “It's not going to be one guy, regardless, even if you say, hey, this guy's the starter now. But understanding that they're all going to get reps and we've just got to figure out who it is that may take more than the other, who's doing what best?

"Being able to throw Turp [Turpin] in the mix, I think it's awesome just to have a versatile group like that. Not knowing necessarily which one it's going to be, and who knows, that could be week to week, too.”

So, there might not be a settled group that the Cowboys take into each game, and that has the potential to give the offense a variety of ways to attack the defense with a host of players, who each bring something different to the table.

The speed burners in Blue and Turpin, along with the tough, bruising runners of Sanders and Williams, plus Vaughn, Luepke and Mafah mixed in. Although we aren't sure Dallas will take all into the season on the active roster.

But one thing is for sure, each will get their turn in the sun, and a running back by committee (that sentence again) might be the way forward in 2025.

And if Dak's all here for it, then so are we.
