In a wild, back-and-forth contest, the Dallas Cowboys edged the New York Giants 40-37 in overtime on Sunday in Arlington, Texas. Dak Prescott threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns, CeeDee Lamb hauled in nine catches for 112 yards, and Brandon Aubrey delivered a game-tying 64-yard field goal as time expired before nailing the OT winner.
But the win came at a cost. Center Cooper Beebe suffered a swollen ankle injury during the game and was forced to leave, visibly limping. What was initially viewed as a minor setback has turned into troubling news for the Cowboys heading into Week 3.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Beebe is expected to miss six to eight weeks after suffering a high-ankle sprain against the Giants.
“Cowboys center Cooper Beebe, a key part of their stellar O-line, is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a high-ankle sprain,” Rapoport wrote. “He’s almost certainly headed to Injured Reserve, but should be back in the second half of the season.”

The swelling in his right ankle was severe. As noted by Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris, it was enough that he needed crutches in the locker room. This type of injury worsens with activity, and recovery tends to be unpredictable.
The 2024 third-round pick had quickly become a stabilizing presence at center, starting both of Dallas’ opening games. His size and leverage have been critical in creating lanes for running back Miles Sanders and protecting Prescott in the pocket. Without him, the Cowboys will turn to backup Brock Hoffman, who filled in during overtime but lacks Beebe’s power and chemistry with the line.
High-ankle sprains are notoriously difficult injuries for linemen, often limiting mobility and explosiveness even after players return, and a stint on injured reserve would keep Beebe sidelined for at least a month.
His absence puts pressure on an offense already battling inconsistency. Prescott has been effective when protected but struggled under duress last season, and losing a reliable interior blocker will test Dallas’ ability to stay balanced offensively.
The Cowboys found a way past the Giants, but with Beebe gone for nearly half the season, head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s ability to adjust will be tested immediately.
Next up, the Cowboys will hit the road to face the struggling Chicago Bears in Week 3. The Bears are winless at 0-2 and searching for answers under new head coach Ben Johnson, while the Cowboys sit at 1-1 and are aiming to steady their season.
Chicago’s defensive front, featuring a strong rotation of young pass-rushers, could exploit Dallas’ weakened interior line. Without one of the team's most reliable pass protectors, the matchup could place even more responsibility on Prescott to get the ball out quickly.
