Cowboys' Jerry Jones: Dak Prescott 'needs to really spin the ball' to play against Eagles

Will Dak Prescott play this week? That's the big question in Dallas.

Owner Jerry Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas that the team will know Wednesday if "(Prescott) can spin the ball" and thus be able to play in Sunday's critical game at Philadelphia.

Jones is so adamant about Prescott's ability to spin the ball that he repeated it five times during a Tuesday interview, per Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News.

Jones' emphasis on spin is amusing and important. If Prescott can throw a tight, catchable pass instead of a wobbly one, it's an indication his fractured right thumb is healing.

Head coach Mike McCarthy explained Prescott must be comfortable throwing before he can play.

"The biggest thing for Dak is just to make sure the ball is coming off the way he's accustomed to," McCarthy said following a 22-10 victory over the Rams.

The Cowboys don't have to push Prescott because of the steady play of backup Cooper Rush, who has won four consecutive games as Prescott's fill-in.

Jones said Rush's play has been "amazing. It's far more than I would've expected." Yet he believes Dallas' offense needs Prescott because of his big-play ability, which could elevate the team against the 5-0 Eagles.

"When we get him back, that'll be a real additive," Jones said. "We'll be a mess (for teams)."
