Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams has hit all the right notes since arriving at The Star.
And while he comes with an offensive line pedigree, he knows he will have to expand his horizon's when it comes to how he splits his time.
But the new man in Dallas isn't interested in simply having good relationships with his players, he wants them to be violent winners as well. We often heard former head coach Mike McCarthy talk about position flex and how important it was for players on the roster to be able to move around.
Well, for Adams, he didn't beat around the bush for his new offensive line when talking about how important position flexibility is for his unit.
“I think that in the NFL, you have to do that," Adams said. "I also think that if you are a starter at a spot and you're a premium player, you're probably not going to play a whole bunch of different other positions. Obviously, there's a exception to every rule but my general thought is if you're not one of those starting five, you better be able to play as many spots as possible. That's probably the plight of being a sixth or seventh guy in this league is that you're not going to get super comfortable at one spot, but that's what's best for the team.”
Dallas' starting five right, one would say, is pretty close to being locked in with Tyler Guyton, Tyler Smith, and Cooper Beebe the mainstays, and there are question marks over Zack Martin and right tackle Terence Steele.
But for the likes of Chuma Edoga, Brock Hoffman, and T.J. Bass, you better be ready to play a host of positions in training camp, because Adams has made it clear that unless you offer something to the team, you won't be on it.
It's a changing of the times in Dallas, and with Brian Schottenheimer's appointments, many hope its for the better.
And in Adams, it feels like the offense is off to a good start.
