Cowboys land disgruntled defensive captain in trade with Bengals

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted on Monday that the team had made a trade, and we now know which player they have acquired.

The Cowboys have agreed to a deal that will send longtime Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson to Dallas, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer reported on Tuesday. The Bengals had been seeking a late-round draft pick for Wilson, who is one of their defensive captains.

Jones said on Monday that the Cowboys had made a trade that would help the team "immediately." The 83-year-old also said he hoped to make a couple more moves before Tuesday's deadline. Those comments came before the Cowboys lost 27-17 at home to the Arizona Cardinals on "Monday Night Football."

Logan Wilson had requested a trade

Wilson, who was in his sixth season with the Bengals, reportedly requested a trade in October. Cincinnati has shifted its focus toward developing rookie linebackers Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight Jr., which left Wilson unhappy with his role on the team.

Wilson had started all seven games for the Bengals before Sunday, when he was inactive for the team's 47-42 loss to the Chicago Bears. He was listed with a calf injury.

In the eight games in which he has played this year, Wilson has 46 total tackles (19 solo) and a fumble recovery. The defensive captain had 100 or more total tackles in each of the last four seasons. Wilson made 75 starts across five-plus seasons with Cincinnati while compiling 11 interceptions, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Cowboys have many problems to solve

The Cowboys fell to 3-5-1 with their loss to the Cardinals on Monday night. While their defense has consistently been one of the worst in the NFL, their offense was unable to get much going against Arizona as well.

The issues in Dallas cannot be resolved with one or even two trades. Wilson might provide a boost, but the Cowboys defense has looked gutted since Micah Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers. The reality is that it might take a long time to fix, though Jones can now at least say he is trying.
