Cowboys Legend Troy Aikman Lands Temporary NFL Role

Long before Troy Aikman was providing commentary for ESPN's "Monday Night Football," he was one of the best quarterbacks the NFL had ever seen. Selected with the No. 1 pick in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, Aikman spent the entirety of his 12-year career with the Cowboys, leading them to three Super Bowls.

In addition to his three rings, Aikman was named to six Pro Bowls, won the NFL Man of the Year Award and was also inducted into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame. With his playing days ending in 2000, it didn't take long for Aikman to find a new role around the NFL as he became an analyst for Fox in 2001.

While Aikman's career as a broadcaster isn't over, it was revealed on Thursday that he will have a new temporary job.

As confirmed by ESPN's Adam Schefter, Aikman will be assisting the Miami Dolphins in its search to find a new general manager.

"The Miami Dolphins have brought on Hall-of-Fame QB and ESPN analyst Troy Aikman as a consultant to advise the organization on its general manager search process, per sources," wrote Schefter. "It is not a permanent role, but he will be an advisor throughout the process for the Dolphins’ next GM."

The Dolphins and Chris Grier mutually agreed to part ways in October after the team's 2-7 start to the season.

Regardless of who Aikman helps select, they will have a challenging task ahead, as the team doesn't have a clear answer at quarterback and head coach Mike McDaniel is seemingly on thin ice.
