Cowboys Made Embarrassing Mistake In Ezekiel Elliott Cut Announcement

For the second time, the Dallas Cowboys cut Ezekiel Elliott.

The Cowboys granted the former star running back's request to be released ahead of Week 18. This gives the 29-year-old a chance to join a playoff squad if the opportunity arises.

On Tuesday, the Cowboys confirmed the news on social media. They shared a graphic with a statement from owner Jerry Jones expressing his admiration for the three-time Pro Bowler.

Unfortunately, the first line misspelled Elliott's last name.

"Statement from Cowboys Owner, President and General Manager Jerry Jones regarding the team's release of Ezekiel Elliot today," the post began.

It's a rough error given Elliott's history with the organization. He's third behind Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett on the franchise's all-time leaderboard with 8,488 rushing yards and 71 rushing touchdowns.

Elliott won Rookie of the Year when beginning his career with 1,994 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2016. He notched 2,001 yards two years later and scored 12 times in 2022 before getting released.

After one year with the New England Patriots, Elliott returned to the team that drafted him with the No. 4 pick. However, the reunion didn't produce a fairy-tale ending. He mustered 295 yards on 86 touches.

Elliott tallied 77 rushing yards in his last eight games after Dallas made him a healthy scratch in Week 9. He ended his second Cowboys run with two yards in a 41-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

"Out of respect and appreciation for Zeke and wanting to provide him with an opportunity to pursue any potential playoff participation possible, we are releasing him from the Cowboys roster today," Jones said in the statement. "As I have said many times previously, Zeke's impact as one of the greatest to ever play with the Star on their helmet will never change and is etched in our record books and history forever. We thank him, love him and wish him the absolute best."

If Elliott signs elsewhere before the playoffs, hopefully the new team double-checks the announcement before pressing send.
