Brandon Aubrey played his part for the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. The All-Pro kicker went 5-of-5 on his field goal attempts against the Detroit Lions, while also connecting on his one extra point attempt. However, despite another flawless performance from Aubrey, Dallas still suffered a 44-30 loss to the Lions on “Thursday Night Football.”
This was a tough defeat for Dallas, whose playoff chances took a massive hit after losing for the first time in its last four games. The Cowboys fell to 6-6-1 after this latest defeat, and their dwindling postseason hopes have now fallen out of their hands.
Dallas cannot fault Aubrey for his effort on Monday night, though. The former professional soccer player has been one of the Cowboys’ most consistent players all season, with the two-time Pro Bowler scoring on 22-of-24 field goal attempts (91.7%) and 37-of-38 extra points (97.4%).
On Monday against the Lions, Aubrey was able to make NFL history again with his game-long 63-yard field goal in the third quarter. The 30-year-old made it look easy as he scored his third 60-yard field goal of the season, en route to setting a new NFL record.
The Cowboys took to social media to announce Aubrey’s latest career milestone.
“Brandon Aubrey made a 63-yard field goal in the third quarter, his third field goal from 60-plus yards in 2025. That is the most 60-yard field goals in a season in NFL history,” Dallas Cowboys Public Relations posted on X.

At this point, it’s as if fans already expect Aubrey to score on every kick, regardless of how far out it might be. For what it’s worth, the current NFL record for the longest field goal is 68 yards, which was set by Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little earlier this season.
As for Aubrey, his longest career field goal is 65 yards. He made an attempt from 70 yards in Week 15 against the Carolina Panthers, but it ended up short and hooked left.
The Cowboys will now need to pick themselves up and take it one game at a time. Up next for them is the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Dec. 14. It’s going to be a home game for Dallas, with the Week 15 kickoff scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
