Jake Ferguson and the Dallas Cowboys couldn't get it done in Week 8, falling to 3-4-1 on the 2025 NFL season after a 44-24 loss on the road against Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos. Despite playing in 59% of the Cowboys' snaps against Denver, Ferguson, for the first time this season, was held without a catch on just one target.
Still, despite his struggles in Week 7, Ferguson remains one of the top tight ends in the NFL. Through eight games, the former Stanford Cardinal standout has recorded 51 catches for 334 yards and six touchdowns, leading all tight ends in receptions and ranking tied for second in receiving touchdowns.
Since being drafted by Dallas in 2022, Ferguson has remained active in supporting the military community. The tight end has partnered with USAA to visit and spend time with service members, and he also supports the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington. In 2024, he joined the museum’s president for a live Character Playbook event.
For his off-field contributions, the Cowboys announced Wednesday that Ferguson is their nominee for the 2025 Salute to Service Award. The annual honor “recognizes NFL players, alumni, staff, and coaches for their efforts to honor and support the military and veteran communities.” And each NFL team selects one nominee for the award, with fans voting on the winner.
Last year, the Cowboys nominated guard Zack Martin for the award, who has since retired from the NFL, but it went to San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle instead. Among the other 31 nominees this year are Kansas City Chiefs tight end Noah Gray, Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh and Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones.
"Ferg's our guy ⭐️," the Cowboys wrote on X. "We are excited to announce Jake Ferguson as our 2025 Salute to Service Award nominee presented by @USAA . Jake has made it a priority to honor, empower, and connect service members, veterans, and their families. Vote for @jqfergy11"
