Dallas Cowboys pass-rushing linebacker Micah Parsons wants a new contract, and the general feeling is that the "Lion" and the NFC East franchise will eventually come to terms.
Set to be paid roughly $40 million APY, Parsons has established himself as one of the best defenders in football, many are wondering why it is taking so long to iron out all the details.
Parsons has stated that he doesn't have to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in football, and that he wants it done as soon as possible. Yet, here we are at the beginning of May, and it still isn't done.
Is that a problem? Not at all, but if we get to training camp, is it still not done? Then yes, that's a problem.
However, for those fearing that Parsons and the Jerry Jones-led Cowboys might not get a deal done and what that could do to the team and their mentality, former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is here to ease those fears.
"I think there's a great chance [that the Cowboys extend Parsons]," Romo said in an exclusive interview with Ryan Sanudo of The U.S. Sun. "The Cowboys are not in the business of letting great players leave the building, so I think you'll see Micah sign a long-term contract soon and both sides will be happy."
So Romo - now the lead national NFL voice at CBS Sports but still uniquely qualified to speak on All Things Jerry - seems confident that it will only be a matter of time before Parsons gets the contract he desires.
With the Cowboys recently completing rookie mini camp, the next little watch in Parsons' negotiations will be mandatory mini camp, and if Micah participates.
Granted, it won't be the end of the world if he doesn't, and Parsons simply being in the building is a win with a new defensive scheme to learn from new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, but the longer the contract goes without being signed, the more trepidation will come from Cowboys fans about No. 11's future.
One way to fix that is to agree to terms with your team's best player, and Romo feels like it's only a matter of time before that happens.
