Cowboys' Micah Parsons Worrying Contract Holdout Suggested By Insider
Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images

FRISCO - We might advice Cowboys Nation to tap the brakes on a pair of major breaking storylines ... that might not be "major.''

Heck, they're not even really "breaking.''

The Dallas Cowboys have had over a year to get their Micah Parsons contract extension done. Many critics continue to insists that it is completely the fault of Jerry and Stephen Jones that a deal isn't done.

But beat writer Mike Fisher disputes that assertion, reporting that Dallas has indeed has "meaningful'' talks with Parsons and has discussed "contract proposal numbers'' with the Cowboys defensive star.

Meanwhile, on Friday, we have what on the surface appears to be a new piece of news, with one outlet reporting that Parsons wants to be a "$200 Million Man.''

Is this information incorrect? No.

Is it "breaking''? Not exactly.

On Monday, in our interview with Micah's brother Terrence, he revealed that the All-Pro pass-rusher would like to do a "five-year deal that is team-friendly.''

It doesn't take a math major to figure this out: Five years. At $40 million APY.

That's $200 million.

If you did the math on Monday, you didn't need the "new report'' on Friday.

And what about the idea that a disgruntled Parsons "could hold out of voluntary and mandatory team activities'' if he doesn't get his new deal in time?

That's enough to send Cowboys Nation into a panic. Micah might skip some workouts?!

But a) That's not uncommon in the NFL. Just a year ago, CeeDee Lamb did it. The year before, Zack Martin did it. It happens.

And b) Doesn't Micah almost always skip part of the voluntary workouts to instead do his own thing?

He does indeed - whether the team likes it or not (they do not) - and he's done that without there being a contract argument in play.

We're not trying to downplay the fact that All Things Micah matter.

We're just trying to get the fact straight. And they are ...

1 - The Cowboys have discussed contract parameters with Micah.

2 - $40 Million x 5 = $200 Million.

3 - Contract disputes sometimes lead to offseason absenteeism. And sometimes, even guys with contract miss.

By the end of the offseason, Parsons and the Cowboys will have likely come to terms. ... though by then, Cowboys Nation will surely have other Micah things to concern itself with - real or imagined.
