Cowboys Open To Further Trades

With plenty of time to spare before the trade deadline, the Cowboys have already swung a notable deal. More swaps could be forthcoming.

Dallas parted with a 2027 sixth-round pick as well as a second-rounder in 2028 to acquire cornerback Joey Porter Jr. from the Steelers. That acquisition (among others) has left the Cowboys short on draft capital for the next two years. Even so, further deals could be made in the near future.

During his latest appearance on 105.3 The Fan, owner/general manager Jerry Jones said (via ESPN’s Todd Archer) he is open to making more trades this season. He added “everything is fluid,” which is of course true in many cases this time of year. Jones has repeatedly expressed confidence in Dallas’ 2026 outlook, so another addition could be pursued. A second defensive acquisition in particular could make sense to aid a unit which ranks 25th in points allowed per game.

A move similar to the Porter deal aimed at providing immediate help “would not come as a surprise,” Archer’s colleague Dan Graziano writes. A less expensive deal – or even one aimed at replenishing the draft picks spent in recent trades – could also be in store, he adds. Either way, Jones’ willingness to finalize a swap has been evident recently. Wideout George Pickens and offensive tackle Broderick Jones have also been sent from Pittsburgh to Dallas, while the Cowboys have added in the front seven via trades for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and edge rusher Rashan Gary.

With over $16MM in cap space, affording more in-season moves should not be a challenge for Dallas. On the other hand, Jones only has four 2027 picks (in the first, second, fourth and seventh rounds) to work with at this point. That could limit his ability to make another splash in the trade market. Nevertheless, the Cowboys will – as always – be the focus of considerable attention leading up next month’s deadline.
