Cowboys players not getting enough love this summer

As we see the Dallas Cowboys head into training camp at the end of July, I feel like I have talked about a lot of things, and right now the topics are hard to come by with not much going on.

Nonetheless, with that said, I think there are a few players on the Cowboys roster heading into the rest of the summer that are not getting enough love.

Let’s remember that this is my list, and you don’t have to agree, but two guys are on defense and the other is on offense.

Jalen Thompson

The biggest free agent signing since Gerald McCoy in 2020. Yes, that is how this front office works.

He signed a three-year deal worth a maximum of $36 million dollars. He is the first outside free agent the Cowboys have signed for more than $6,000,000 AAS since Gerald McCoy in 2020.

One of the biggest issues for the Dallas Cowboys a year ago was the secondary, and they made a huge move to help fill that need today, just about a half hour ago, when they signed Thompson from the Cardinals.

Last season, he played 15 games and finished with his lowest defensive completion percentage of his career — 62.3%. He allowed 38 catches on 61 targets and gave up three touchdowns. He had one interception in 2025 and finished with 95 tackles.

He has been flying under the radar, at least to me, he has, because I think the Cowboys hit a home run by being able to get Caleb Downs in the draft.

Thompson should help the secondary at least in the safety spot, but the cornerbacks are still a major issue.

Cobie Durant

As I noted just above, the cornerbacks are going to be a major issue still this season, and if they can stay healthy, I think Cobie Durant is going to be maybe the best they have!

He is not getting enough love, even after his play with the Rams last year in the playoffs.

Durant provides as a 28-year-old with average skills, according to PFF.

The site gave him a 66.7 overall grade and a 67.4 coverage grade, which ranked 39th and 38th out of 144 qualifying corners in 2025. Where they really dock him pretty hard is in the running game, and in blitzing, which makes sense considering his 182 lb frame.

He is only signed for one year, and it is a boom or bust move that does not hurt them in the long run.

I think Durant will be the most important player in the cornerback room this season, even with Caleb Downs playing nickel back. Look for him to make an impact in the first game of the year in September.

Ryan Flournoy

Ryan Flournoy is getting more love than the other two on this list, but he is still being overlocked by such a good offense.

With George Pickens coming to camp and not holding out, he not will be flying under the radar, and honestly, I think the Cowboys have a chance to see three wide receivers go well over 1K yards this season.

Flournoy is coming off a 40-catch, 475-yard, four-touchdown season a year ago when he had two 100-yard games, so surprise might be a little much, but if something happens to CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, the Cowboys know what they have in Flournoy.

I think he is going to make a case for one of the most underrated guys this season, and it is not like he hasn’t shown he can do it, with two 100-yard games a season ago.

Of course, you don’t want anything to happen to Lamb or Pickens, but if one of them goes down, they still have a true no. 1 guy and Ryan behind them to step up and fill a void for the meantime.
