Dallas Cowboys duo CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, or "Mario Bros." as Pickens called them, as training camp began, are set to be the talk of the regular season under Brian Schottenheimer.
With Dak Prescott now having two genuine No. 1 weapons at his disposal, what that can do for the passing attack and the run game is going to be a fascinating watch.
With Pickens' downfield ability, coupled with Lamb being able to move all around the formation alongside tight end Jake Ferguson, plus a revamped run game, it all ties together.
But when it comes to what Pickens and Lamb can do for coordinator Klayton Adams' offense? He knows exactly what he wants.
"The bottom line is when you have one of those guys on either side of the formation and a running game in the middle, it's tough to defend," Adams said. "Just really the presence of having a threat on either side and the ability to, the way I would describe it, kind of bash the middle of the defense in, it gives you an advantage when you can do that, and that's what we're trying to develop."
The thought is that with Lamb and Pickens on the field, defenses can't allocate resources to double-team them (tried with Lamb last year and 88 still cooked), and that can then stress a defense. Plus, if the run game gets rolling, stacking the box is also out of the equation because then Lamb and Pickens, along with the other weapons, can feast in one-on-one matchups.
Again, that is the thought.
Training camp is about figuring out how to bring that to life on the field, and for Adams, that is what he and Brian Schottenheimer will be working feverishly to do.
Because if the offense gets rolling, Prescott and Co. could be about to have one hell of a season ... with the "Mario Bros." at the center of it.
