Cowboys Reveal Final Preseason Depth Chart; Running Back Pecking Order To Be Decided vs. Falcons?

Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has one more practice and the final preseason game to do his roster evaluations before the dreaded roster cutdowns.

One position group that is a must-watch is running back, with no one standing out from the crowd throughout the offseason. Yes, players have flashed like Jaydon Blue, but others have been hit and miss.

Well, they can't afford to miss now.

Javonte Williams feels like the starter for Schottenheimer, and if I had to predict his backup, it would be Blue, but again, we've got to see him in action because doing it in training camp practice and a real NFL game are two different things entirely.

As the Cowboys had their Tuesday night practice at the Ford Center, there were a couple of things to keep an eye on and one was who would be getting carries and who wasn't.

Per DallasCowboys.com, the running back splits were as follows:

"Javonte Williams - 6, Jaydon Blue - 4, Miles Sanders - 3, Deuce Vaughn - 3, Malik Davis - 2, Phil Mafah - 1," Tommy Yarrish wrote.

Yarrish also noted that of the 53 offensive snaps, 19 of them were run plays, so there might have been a clear emphasis on getting this run game up and rolling.

Now comes the Wednesday night session, along with Dallas' final depth chart of the preseason ... with Javonte still on top.

How much of Blue and Co. we will see against the Falcons is unknown, but there needs to be an eye towards Week 1 and the Philadelphia Eagles with the run game set to play a pivotal role in the outcome of the contest.

But who will be behind Dak Prescott? As we enter the final week of preseason games, the Cowboys still don't know.

Is that a good or bad thing? That, my friends, is quite the conversation starter.
