Cowboys' Run Game 'Prime Candidate' For Trade Acquistion

The Dallas Cowboys' run game, for the second time in two years, will be a big watch as training camp begins in Oxnard.

Granted, things are a little different with an air of positivity surrounding the team right now, but there are still skeptics over what Brian Schottenheimer is doing with his backs.

Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, Jaydon Blue, and Deuce Vaughn loom as the quartet to keep a watchful eye on, with the hope that one will emerge as the bona fide starter, and the rest make up the committee.

For ESPN's Ben Solak, Dallas could be a prime trade candidate for a running back if things don't start well early.

"This camp battle is one to watch less for the touch distribution -- all three backs will inevitably get usage this season -- and more for the overall quality," Solak writes. "The Cowboys feel like a prime candidate for a running back trade acquisition, especially if their rushing game lags again behind an improved passing game with George Pickens at receiver."

In truth, Dallas is hoping that someone will take the mantle of the starter, and the decision will be made for Schotty, although it is widely seen as a battle between Williams and Sanders.

As for the trade part, if the passing game is electric as many think it will be, and the run game is so-so, then the Cowboys might look to make a move if they are in a strong position record-wise before the trade deadline.

Running back has been a problematic area for Dallas in recent times, despite both Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle surpassing 1,000 yards in the last two seasons.

Who will be the one to do it in 2025?
