Cowboys Sign New Offensive Tackle Amid Tyler Guyton Injury
Chris Jones-Imagn Images.

Micah Parsons might be dominating the headlines, but his contract situation isn't the only issue plaguing the Dallas Cowboys right now.

Cowboys left tackle Tyler Guyton suffered a knee injury during Monday's practice. It was initially considered an ACL injury, but imaging showed that it's a bone fracture. He's expected to sit out at least four to six weeks.

Earlier this week, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer named second-year player Nathan Thomas as a potential short-term replacement for Guyton. He was selected by Dallas in the seventh round of the 2024 draft.

"A guy to watch out for is Nate Thomas," Schottenheimer said. "He’s doing great. He’s a guy we didn’t get to see a lot of football out of last year. He’s been great… He worked his ass off getting back. He had a great spring, worked incredibly hard and was here all the time. We’re moving him around, he’s playing multiple spots. He looks really good right now at tackle. He’s a big guy that’s hard to get around. I love that flexibility that he brings."

While it's certainly possible Thomas wins the job, he'll have some competition. On Friday, the Cowboys signed La'el Collins. This news was first reported by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Collins is a familiar face for the Cowboys, albeit he hasn't played for them since the 2021 season.

Over the course of his NFL career, Collins has appeared in 89 games. The days of him being a starter appear to be over, but perhaps he'll turn back the clock in Dallas. At the very least, he'll give the offensive line some much-needed depth.

The Cowboys will open the 2025 season on Sept. 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
