Cowboys To Extend TE Brevyn Spann-Ford

Spann-Ford is days away from beginning his third season with the Cowboys, who added him as an undrafted free agent in 2024. The former Minnesota Golden Gopher cracked the Cowboys’ season-opening roster as a rookie and has played in all 34 of their games since then.

Spann-Ford ranked third among Cowboys tight ends in snaps in each of his first two years, trailing Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker. While logging a 26.05% snap share in his first season, Spann-Ford caught nine of 14 targets for 88 yards. The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder made the first five starts of his career and caught a touchdown in 2025, but his snap share (25.3%) and receiving numbers (nine grabs on 13 targets, 90 yards) barely changed.

Although Spann-Ford has not put up gaudy pass-catching numbers in the pros, he is a well-regarded blocker who has emerged a key special-teamer. After playing 25% of third-phase snaps in his rookie campaign, the number doubled to 50% in 2025. Judging by Spann-Ford’s new deal, the Cowboys could have bigger plans for him going forward. Schoonmaker is on track to become a free agent next offseason, and he seems likely to depart in 2027 in the wake of the Spann-Ford extension.
