Cowboys trying for extension following Micah Parsons trade, ‘… hopefully he’s the next one’

The Dallas Cowboys suddenly have zero issue negotiating with their stars — which probably doesn’t sit well with Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons.

Parsons had been embroiled in a significant contract dispute with the club for several months, which eventually led to an official trade request as the organization refused to work with agent David Mulugheta — which was honored on Thursday.

It’s about as ugly an ending as you can possibly have, but that isn’t deterring players from wanting to do business in Dallas.

Cowboys agree to extension with cornerback Daron Bland

The Cowboys agreed to a contract extension with cornerback Daron Bland.

Yes, seriously.

Bland is certainly worthy of the four-year, $92 million contract that was handed to him on Sunday, but the timing of the deal certainly didn’t excite fans who were hoping to see something come together for Parsons. It’s something we warned you all about several weeks ago — not to brag, or anything.

Dallas isn’t done handing out deals to recent successful draft selections, either.

Cowboys looking for another extension with offensive lineman Tyler Smith

The Cowboys are looking to get something done with offensive lineman Tyler Smith.

Smith, a two-time Pro Bowl selection across his first three seasons in Dallas, is someone who will need an early deal before the price becomes outrageous — which is understood by his coaching staff.

“What a talent,” Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Sunday “Hopefully he’s the next one to get done.”

Smith is certainly worthy, serving as one of the league’s best interior offensive linemen, though he hasn’t made much of an issue regarding a new deal, as shared by the team website.

“I can’t really say it’s been heavy on my mind,” Smith said when asked if he was concerned about the extension process. “The only thing that we can handle is the work, ultimately we’re going to play the Eagles week one, that’s where my head is.”

Dallas would help their standing with fans if able to sign two cornerstone pieces to an extension following the trade of their best player — though not all wounds would be healed.
