Cowboys Update Reveals Shocking Pete Carroll News

FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys' coaching search craze has finally settled down. While the fanbase's ire for the front office rages on, the Brian Schottenheimer era has begun as of Monday morning at The Star.

Schottenheimer's rise to this position is nonetheless surprising given how the search began. Names spanning from Deion Sanders to Jason Witten flooded the headlines following Mike McCarthy's departure.

The whirlwind of rumors dominated the news cycle until Schottenheimer's name gained traction at the start of last week before word became official Friday evening.

But one coach was floated around the discussion toward the end of the search. Thursday, reports surfaced that the Cowboys contacted Pete Carroll for their head coaching vacancy - or, at least, as noted first by 105.3 The Fan’s Shan Shariff, that somebody called somebody.

Speculation surfaced on whether there was interest there or if Dallas was simply doing their homework on the eventual hire.

However, Patrik Walker revealed a shocking update on the "Talkin' Cowboys" podcast that Carroll had a "very real chance" to land the job, but the two sides could not agree to terms.

That resulted in Carroll going to Las Vegas to become the next head coach of the Raiders and Schottenheimer securing his current position with the Cowboys.

It is a stunning twist on the now closed case of the Cowboys' search. As to what the exact terms that left negotiations in a standstill were, that is unknown at this time.

But this revelation now creates a direct comparison for Schottenheimer's tenure in Dallas. Whatever his former boss and mentor does in Vegas will be stacked against what he accomplishes with the Cowboys.

If Schottenheimer falters and Carrol rejuvenates the Raiders, Cowboys fans will be quick to blame not only Schottenheimer, but Jerry and Stephen Jones for letting him slip out of their grasp. …

And Cowboys Nation might also assume that “couldn’t agree on terms” translates as “Jerry went cheap.”

Interestingly, the Cowboys will visit the Raiders next season. The NFL schedule release is far away on the league calendar, but it is hard to imagine that game not being made appointment television some time in 2025.
