The Dallas Cowboys have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons since the season began. Starting 1-2-1, the Cowboys' woes stem from trading away their best defensive player, Micah Parsons.
Not having Parsons on defense has shown how poor the Cowboys defense is, as they have had a completely different season than the offense, which is one of the top in the NFL.
When Parsons got traded to the Green Bay Packers, many wondered how well the Cowboys would perform, but likely nobody predicted that their defense would be this terrible. According to FOX Sports, the Cowboys have the best offense in football, averaging 404.3 yards per game, while their defense ranks last in yards per game, allowing 420.5 yards.

The Cowboys also rank first in passing offense (281.3 yards per game), 12th in rushing offense (123.0 yards) and fifth in scoring offense (28.5 points).
The Cowboys offense is paced by quarterback Dak Prescott, who has returned to form after suffering a hamstring injury in 2024. Prescott leads the league in passing yards (1,119) and is third in completion percentage (72.9%) and fourth in QBR (74.2).
The defense, on the other hand, has been a different story. With the worst passing defense (allowing 297.3 yards per game), allowing 30+ points per game and the inability to stop teams on third down, the Cowboys likely have the worst defense in the league.
The Cowboys could have avoided this disaster if owner Jerry Jones hadn't been cheap and had a desire to win. Unwilling to pay Parsons what he wanted or deserved, Jones traded him to the Packers for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks, opting to build for the future, while winning now took a backseat.
Parsons is not only the best defensive end in football but one of the best players in the league on defense. He can heavily impact the game, which not many can do.
Trading away a star such as Parsons was a bold move that hasn’t paid off yet for Jones and his Cowboys, and he’s likely to regret ever making that trade, with the Packers having a better chance to make the playoffs this season.
