Dak Prescott campaigns for Cowboys to make huge George Pickens move after comeback win over Eagles

The uncertain future of Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens continues to hover over the club that improved to 5-5-1 when it erased a 21-point deficit to earn a thrilling 24-21 win over the rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Following that victory, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott made it clear that he wants to keep throwing passes to Pickens beyond the ongoing season.

Dak Prescott has "limitless" expectations for George Pickens

"It’s hard for me to say exceeds my expectations," Prescott said about Pickens, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "My expectations for him are limitless, and he’ll tell you that he’s not from here. ...He’s not from here. He’s not from this planet, and so, I’m not going to put limitations on him. He went out there and did what he’s done in games when he has that opportunity, in practice as well."

Against the Eagles, Pickens led the Cowboys with nine catches for 146 yards and a touchdown. His reception with under 45 seconds remaining in regulation put Dallas' Brandon Aubrey in position to make a walk-off 42-yard field goal as time expired.

"The guy loves the game," Prescott added. "He stays focused. Just the communication, as I’ve said before, to other guys in the huddle about staying focused and keep doing what you’re doing. We lucked up with getting a guy like that. We have to make sure that we can keep him here. He’s a hell of a player turning into a leader, and he’s special."

Pickens is in the final season of his contract and would "love to" stay with a Cowboys team that acquired him from the Pittsburgh Steelers this past spring. Dallas reportedly could retain Pickens' rights for 2026 via the franchise tag, but it's unclear if he would play on the tag.

According to ESPN, Pickens began Monday ranked second in the NFL with 1,054 receiving yards, eighth with 67 receptions and third with eight touchdown catches on the season.

Would Jerry Jones pay George Pickens after signing CeeDee Lamb to extension?

Some have openly wondered if Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones will be willing to lock Pickens down via a multi-year deal after Jones handed WR1 CeeDee Lamb a four-year, $136M extension in August 2024. Following Sunday's win, Jones indicated he heard Prescott's message regarding Pickens' status loud and clear.

"Of course [we want to keep Pickens]," Jones said. "Of course, we are proud to have him, and I don’t even want to play games with him. We’d love to have him on the team. By the way, I’d love to have 88 [Lamb] on the team. And I know what we’re asking around here, but we sure like the way the combination is really letting us execute on offense."

Pickens will have another opportunity to shine on a massive stage when the Cowboys host the Kansas City Chiefs (6-5) on Thanksgiving Day. As of Monday morning, ESPN BET had Dallas as a 3.5-point underdog for that contest.
