Dak Prescott injury update: Report reveals Cowboys QB may require season-ending surgery

Dak Prescott‘s injury may be more serious than initially thought.

According to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, Prescott is dealing with a partial avulsion of his right hamstring tendon and Dallas Cowboys officials are now trying to determine whether or not he needs surgery, or if the injury can heal on its own.

If Prescott goes through with surgery, it will effectively end his season, per the report.

However, Prescott is still trying to obtain multiple opinions on the matter. That could be a reason why the Cowboys have yet to place Prescott on injured reserve, which would force him to miss a minimum of four games.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said that the decision “has not been made” as of Wednesday after practice.

Prescott suffered the injury in last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons. The expectation was he’d miss “multiple weeks” as a result, but the Cowboys haven’t yet given a timetable for his return as they weigh the decision to put him on IR or let him go forward with surgery.

Prescott completed 18 of 24 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown before going down with injury as his Cowboys eventually fell 27-21 to the Atlanta Falcons.

“I gotta get it looked at,” Prescott said, via Jeff Darlington of ESPN. “Didn’t think much of it — then the next play, I felt a pull. That’s something I never felt. It was tough to walk on it at that point. I asked if I could make it worse. The [medical staff] said I wouldn’t be able to protect myself. I wanted to get out there and compete. I wanted to get out there and fight.”

As Prescott continues to seek opinions for his injured hamstring, the Cowboys are moving forward with quarterback Cooper Rush for Week 10’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Dallas is a seven-point underdog to the Eagles without its starting quarterback.
