FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, who in his In two NFL seasons has made two Pro Bowls and has been a first-team All-Pro and a second-team All-Pro. is one of the most valuable pieces on the roster.
So getting him to be healthy and just right is of the utmost importance.
That is happening now, as the McKinney native and former pro soccer star underwent what is being called "minor'' shoulder surgery.
As first noted by the Dallas News, Aubrey - who has made 89.4 percent of his field goals, including 24 of 27 from 50 yards or longer (with a long of 65 yards) - is expecte to be ready to participate in the offseason program.
And next up for Aubrey? Hey, it's part of the NFL ... and so contract time is coming.
Aubrey is entering the final season of his existing three-year contract ... and it can easily be argued that Aubrey can justify asking for a record-setting extension at his position.
There are just three kickers who have contracts that average at least $6 million a season, with Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and his $6.4 million APY representing the top of the heap.
We imagine that Cowboys owners Jerry and Stephen Jones plan to seal a deal with him. ... maybe sooner rather than later, as seems wise.
Some of the numbers are easy. Aubrey might've been Dallas' best player in 2024, with as powerful a leg as literally anybody in the world.
But here's the hard one: How much will Dallas pay him?
He is moving forward with a new agent. That would be Todd France, notorious to some Cowboys fans because he also represents Dak Prescott.
No doubt France believes his client is deserving of a record-setting extension.
So Dallas might has well pencil in right now a $6 million per year proposal - a healthy contract for a soon-to-be-healthy Aubrey.
