Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys secured their first win of the 2025 NFL season on Sunday, defeating Russell Wilson and the New York Giants 40-37 in double overtime. Kicker Brandon Aubrey played a pivotal role for the Cowboys, hitting four field goals, including a 64-yarder to tie the game at the end of regulation and the game-winner as time expired in overtime.
Prescott turned in a strong performance, completing 38-of-52 passes for 361 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, while adding 17 rushing yards. He also led two late drives in the fourth quarter and overtime to set up Aubrey’s clutch field goals.
Entering the game, Prescott had 2,801 career completions, ranking third on the Cowboys’ all-time list. He trailed former Dallas quarterback and current CBS analyst Tony Romo, who is second with 2,829.
With his 38 completions against the Giants, Prescott now has 2,839 for his career, passing Romo for second on the Cowboys’ all-time list. The former Mississippi State star now trails only three-time Super Bowl champion Troy Aikman, who holds the franchise record with 2,898 completions from 1989-2000.
Danny White ranks fourth on the Cowboys’ all-time completions list with 1,761 during his time in Dallas. Hall of Famer Roger Staubach is fifth with 1,685 completions, despite leading the team to two Super Bowl titles.
The Cowboys announced the news on Monday.
"Dak Prescott moved into second place in Cowboys history in completions, passing Tony Romo (2,829). Dak now has 2,839 and needs 60 to pass Troy Aikman (2,898) for first in team history."
Through two games to begin the 2025 season, the Cowboys sit at 1-1, nearly defeating the Philadelphia Eagles in the season-opener. In those contests, Prescott has completed 59-of-86 passes for 549 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, with a majority of his numbers coming against New York.
Up next for Dallas, a Week 3 battle against the Chicago Bears.
