  • Dallas Cowboys face Carolina Panthers in Week 6 amid key injuries and recent roster changes
  • RB Miles Sanders placed on injured reserve; WRs Cropper and Campbell elevated for game
  • Prescott relies on new wideouts due to injuries; roster versatility tested midseason

The Dallas Cowboys are back in action on Sunday in a Week 6 matchup against the 2-3 Carolina Panthers. The Cowboys enter this game with a 2-2-1 record and on the heels of their 37-22 win over the New York Jets in Week 5.

Quarterback Dak Prescott has been a steady force for head coach Mike McCarthy to start the season. The three-time Pro Bowler already has 10 passing touchdowns in his first five games (against three interceptions) on 139-of-195 completed passes (71.3%) and 1,356 yards. On top of that, the 32-year-old veteran has rushed 12 times for 50 yards and one rushing TD.

The Cowboys, however, lost Miles Sanders earlier this season, which impacted the team’s running game. Sanders, who signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal with Dallas as a free agent during the offseason, suffered what turned out to be a season-ending knee injury in the Cowboys’ Week 4 tie with the Green Bay Packers.

Prior to his season being cut short by an injury, the Pro Bowl running back had registered 20 carries for 117 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Sanders was the top name on Dallas’ roster update on Saturday. The team took to social media to announce a handful of roster decisions ahead of the Panthers game.

“The @dallascowboys placed RB Miles Sanders on Reserve/Injured and signed WR Jalen Cropper to the active roster from the practice squad.

“Dallas also elevated WR Parris Campbell from the practice squad for tomorrow’s game at Carolina.

“Lastly, CB Caelen Carson and WR Jonathan Mingo will remain on the Reserve/DFR list and are both ruled out for tomorrow’s game,” Dallas Cowboys Public Relations posted on X.

Sanders being placed on injured reserve is no surprise, considering how the team had already previously revealed that the 28-year-old is set to undergo season-ending surgery.

The Cowboys also decided to elevate two wideouts, former Fresno State Bulldogs standout Jalen Cropper and ex-Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl champion Parris Campbell, to the active roster for the game against Carolina.

CeeDee Lamb remains out with an ankle problem and fellow WR KaVontae Turpin is still not ready to return due to a foot injury. This means that Prescott will need to rely on guys like George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert and Ryan Flournoy for Dallas’ passing game. Cropper could get some run as well against the Panthers, while Campbell’s promotion to the active roster adds some veteran insurance.

The Cowboys also announced that cornerback Caelen Carson (knee) and wide receiver Jonathan Mingo (knee) will remain sidelined against the Panthers.

Dallas has dealt with multiple injuries this season and has employed the “next man up” mentality early on. Their roster versatility continues to be tested heading into the midseason, and this team’s overall performance against Carolina could shape upcoming roster elevations.
