Dallas Cowboys Emerge as Possible Anthony Richardson Trade Destination

Not long ago, Anthony Richardson was expected to be the long-term franchise quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. He was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to be exactly that kind of player.

Unfortunately, over the last two years, Richardson has been unable to prove that he can be that guy for the Colts. He has struggled on the field and has dealt with multiple injury issues that have kept him from playing in general.

How about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys being a possible suitor for the young quarterback?

That is exactly what one analyst believes could make a lot of sense.

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has suggested the Cowboys as a "dream" trade destination for Richardson if Indianapolis chooses to move on from him.

"There's also a non-zero chance Richardson could become the future in Dallas if he shows enough promise as Prescott's understudy," Knox wrote. "The Cowboys could get out of Prescott's contract in 2027—saving $45 million in cap space with a post-June 1 designation—which would also be the final year of Richardson's rookie deal, if the fifth-year option is exercised."

It's not a likely move for the Cowboys, but it's one that could make sense. Jones is always looking for ways to improve his football team. Richardson could be a dynamic backup behind Dak Prescott.

Throughout his first two seasons in the NFL, Richardson has played in just 15 games. He has completed 50.6% of his pass attempts for 2,391 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, while also rushing for 635 yards and 10 touchdowns.

At just 23 years old, there is still plenty of time for Richardson to turn his NFL career around. Should the Colts place him on the trade block, there is a good chance that a lot of teams would line up with interest.

All of that being said, it would not be shocking to see Dallas be one of those teams.
