Dallas Cowboys' Mike McCarthy 'Guaranteed' to Coach vs. Eagles As He's Out of Surgery, Says Norv Turner's Doc
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has endured a health scare, has exited the hospital and is now "guaranteed'' to be back in time to oversee "America's Team'' as the Cowboys play host to the Philadelphia Eagles this week on "Sunday Night Football.''

McCarthy, 60, felt poorly on Wednesday morning at work here at The Star as doctors discovered he was suffering from acute appendicitis. The surgery went well, and per Jane Slater of the NFL Network, McCarthy is out of the hospital already as he is recovering.

Slater noted that quarterback "Dak Prescott ... had a stomach bug over the weekend'' and it was at first assumed to be something that innocuous.

But even now, "Pro Football Doc'' Dr. David J. Chao assures us that McCarthy is essentially "guaranteed'' to be back on the sideline on Sunday ... and Dr. Chao name-drops the identity of an old pal as first-hand proof.

Dr. Chao's story on Norv Turner - the Chargers head coach when Dr. Chao worked there and of course a key assistant in Dallas' Super Bowl days in the 1990's - is a gem. ...

What happened today here inside The Star at practice: The Dallas coordinators Quinn, Brian Schottenheimer and John Fassel stepped up to oversee practice in McCarthy's absence.

What will happen for "Sunday Night Football'' with the 10-2 Eagles coming to town to take on the 9-3 Cowboys?

“You think that tough Irishman is gonna miss this game?'' defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said with a laugh. "We certainly expect him to be rocking by game day.”
