Brandon Aubrey has been one of the Dallas Cowboys' best players to start the 2025 season. He's converted 10-of-10 field goals and gone 15-of-16 in extra point attempts. That includes making four field goals of at least 50 yards.
Without his efforts, the Cowboys likely wouldn't have a 2-2-1 record. That's apparent by his game-winning 46-yard field goal to defeat the New York Giants 40-37 in Week 2. He also had a game-tying 64-yard field goal at the end of regulation.
At 30 years old, his heroics and accuracy have raised questions about securing a long-term extension to stay in Dallas. This is Aubrey's final year under contract.
Spotrac recently posted an article highlighting several NFL stars who are in line for a big-time extension. Michael Ginnitti predicted the Cowboys would lock Aubrey down with a long-term deal.
"Arguably the best kicker in football each of the past 2+ seasons, Aubrey’s accuracy, range, and reliability have kept the Cowboys afloat in many games since adding him as a UDFA back in 2023," Ginnitti wrote. "The 30-year-old is technically a restricted free agent this coming March, but Dallas likely wastes no time locking in their weapon on a multi-year guarantee."
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's four-year, $25.6 million deal is the largest ever handed out to a kicker. However, Ginnitti predicts that Aubrey has earned a contract that should surpass that figure.
"Harrison Butker’s $6.4M APY is the current leader in the clubhouse, so a 4 year, $26M+ extension is in the cards here," Ginnitti added.
An extension has already been talked about, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stating, "We'll be looking at that," when asked about a potential deal after Aubrey's game-winning field goal over the Giants.
The Cowboys can certainly afford a contract of this size as well, sitting with $31.75 million in cap space, according to Spotrac.
