Dallas Cowboys Receive Discouraging Message After Fifth Loss

The Dallas Cowboys have once again found themselves at the center of major criticism following their latest loss. Former Cowboys defensive lineman Chris Canty did not hold back on ESPN’s First Take, declaring the team’s season “has been over for a while now.”

His hot take came after Dallas lost its fifth game of the season in disappointing fashion against the Arizona Cardinals, a matchup many thought would serve as a bounce-back opportunity on Monday Night Football.

Canty, who played for the Cowboys from 2005 to 2008, said on the show that “the roster just ain’t there,” making it clear he doesn’t believe this team has the depth or talent to climb back into playoff contention.

It was a strong statement from someone who knows the organization well, and it comes at a time when frustrations are boiling in Dallas after another flat performance.

Cowboys Struggle to Find Answers

The Cowboys’ loss to Arizona was one of their most discouraging of the season. The Cardinals, led by backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett, dominated the game from start to finish. Dallas looked out of rhythm on both sides of the ball, and even the defense, usually a strong point, appeared uninspired. Poor tackling, missed assignments, and a lack of pressure allowed Arizona to control the clock and dictate the pace of play.

For a team that began the year with playoff expectations, the latest setback has left fans questioning if the Cowboys can salvage what’s left of the 2025 campaign. The locker room may remain hopeful, but the outside noise is growing louder with every loss.

Dallas Looks for a Defensive Spark

In an effort to address some of their defensive woes, the Cowboys made a move Tuesday by acquiring linebacker Logan Wilson. The former Cincinnati Bengal brings a physical presence and leadership quality that the Dallas defense desperately needs. Wilson has proven himself as a reliable tackler and communicator, traits that could help stabilize a unit that has struggled with consistency since midseason.

Still, one player may not be enough to shift the momentum. Dallas needs more from its front seven, and the secondary will have to tighten coverage if the team wants to compete against tougher opponents in the coming weeks. Dallas has allowed 277 points this season, which is second-worst worst only to Cincinnati.

Looking Ahead to Raiders Matchup

The Cowboys now get ready for a very big game against the Las Vegas Raiders, another team fighting to stay relevant in the playoff picture. With both clubs searching for a spark, the upcoming matchup could be a defining moment in Dallas’s season. The Raiders are 2-6.

If the Cowboys can’t respond with urgency, Canty’s message might ring true sooner than anyone in Dallas wants to admit. Fans have seen this pattern before: early promise followed by midseason collapse. Whether this roster has the heart to fight back will be tested in the weeks ahead.

In a season that’s slipping away, the Cowboys’ response to criticism and adversity may determine how they are remembered come December and be an indictment of first-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer's legacy at the helm.
