The Dallas Cowboys are under immense pressure to perform in 2025. It will not be easy. The Philadelphia Eagles are the defending Super Bowl champions, and the Washington Commanders are ready to make another deep playoff run. Even the New York Giants have improved over the offseason. There are many ways the 2025 season could go sideways. If that happens, the Cowboys may be sellers at the trade deadline. One analyst believes superstar defender DaRon Bland is an expendable piece.
DaRon Bland came in and took the league by storm. As a fifth-round pick, he wasn’t expected to get much playing time, but an injury to Jourdan Lewis thrust him into a starting role. He had five interceptions and seven passes defended. The next season, he followed it up with a nine-interception season, with a whopping five of them returned for touchdowns. Last season, a foot injury limited him to seven games.
Bland is ready to have a bounce-back year for the Dallas Cowboys, but he is in a contract year. Pro Football Network’s Sterling Xie made a list of an expendable player for every team after the 2025 NFL Draft. Bland was his choice for the Cowboys. The reasoning is the players they now have on the roster.
“The saving grace for Bland is that both Revel and Diggs have uncertain health situations, with the latter undergoing a major knee procedure in January. Still, Bland should continue to hold trade value into the season, and he could be a strong midseason trade candidate if the Cowboys’ season goes sideways again.”
The Dallas Cowboys were able to get Shavon Revel Jr. in the third round. He was projected earlier in the season as a first-round pick, but questions about his torn ACL recovery caused him to fall. Xie’s point is that the Cowboys don’t need to spend big money on a player when they have cheaper options available.
It will be interesting to see what the Dallas Cowboys decide to do. If they stumble out of the gate, they could look to sell off some key pieces like Bland, in order to jump-start the rebuild process.
