Dallas Goedert's PFF tight end ranking says the quiet part about his recent play

The passing offense for the Philadelphia Eagles over the last few years flowed through A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but there has been one other pass catcher who has been stellar when he can stay on the field.

Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert always seems to be forgotten in the conversation as one of the best tight ends in the NFL. There have been factors contributing to Goedert being overlooked, but 2025 presents an opportunity for him to rise among the elite.

Those factors would reveal itself in a new tight ends ranking that will have mixed emotion on where Goedert should be stacked up against the rest of the tight ends in the NFL.

Goedert's ranking against NFL tight ends by PFF will leave questions

PFF writer John Kosko continued the website's top 32 rankings for each position in the NFL. This time, the tight ends got the attention, and Kosko has Goedert in a respectable eighth rank.

"Goedert’s PFF grades have dipped in the past two years compared to the first five seasons of his career, but he remains one of the best in the game. Competing for touches in the Eagles‘ offense, Goedert earned a 75.8 PFF receiving grade in 2024 and is tied for 12th in PFF WAR across the past two seasons."

Philadelphia selected Goedert in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft after the team stole him away from the Dallas Cowboys in fantastic fashion. He's gone on to have a productive career in the NFL with the Eagles after catching 349 passes for 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns in 93 games.

Over the years, what has kept Goedert from being selected for the Pro Bowl or All-Pro teams is his durability. He has missed 15 games in the last three years due to different injuries.

Last year, a hamstring and knee injury caused him to miss seven games in the regular season. His backup, Grant Calcaterra, stepped up in his place and had a breakout year with 24 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown.

Those injury concerns and lack of availability on the field resulted in an offseason filled with questions about whether the Eagles would keep him or send him elsewhere. Philadelphia decided to restructure Goedert's contract for 2025, having him play one more year.

This season has become the most crucial season of Goedert's career as he has plenty to prove. The 30-year-old tight end can be one of the top five tight ends in the league when he is on the field.

If Goedert can eliminate the injury bug label from himself, the Eagles have a dangerous weapon for Jalen Hurts and the offense.
