Dalvin Cook Gives Update On Where He Will Be Playing in 2024
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Things did not go according to plan for Dalvin Cook this past season.

The four-time Pro Bowl running back signed with the New York Jets last summer after being released by the Minnesota Vikings and anticipated playing a significant role for a Super Bowl hopeful.

Instead, Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles on New York’s first offensive series of the season, ending Gang Green’s championship aspirations.

The injury to Rodgers also severely altered Cook’s trajectory with the Jets.

Cook carried the ball just 67 times for 214 yards in 15 games with New York, logging only 15 catches for 78 yards. New York waived Cook late in the season, and he proceeded to sign with the Baltimore Ravens. However, he did not get any playing time with the Ravens at all.

Now, the 28-year-old remains a free agent with training camp around the corner, but during a Wednesday appearance on NFL Network, Cook provided a little update on his current situation.

“It’s wide open, man. It’s wide open to be honest,” Cook said. “I’m in contact with my agent Zach every day about the possible landing spots for me. … I let him take care of what he’s got to take care of.”

Cook added that he is definitely prepared to get back on the field.

“I’ve just got to be ready to go,” he said. “… I’m feeling great. I’m feeling like myself.”

The Florida State product is just two seasons removed from rushing for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance, so he may still have something left in the tank.

It’s definitely strange what happened to Cook over the last year, as he went from posting four straight 1,000-yard campaigns to becoming a virtual afterthought.

Cook was originally selected by the Vikings in the second round of the NFL Draft. A torn ACL ended his rookie year prematurely, and it took him until his third season to really get his legs underneath him.

The Miami native’s best season came in 2020, when he racked up 1,557 yards and 16 scores on the ground while also hauling in 53 receptions for 519 yards.

Those days are almost surely behind Cook, but perhaps he can find a role in a running back rotation somewhere before the 2024 campaign begins.
