Dan Campbell sends strong message after Lions OT win

Dan Campbell used the locker-room speech at Ford Field to deliver a message after Detroit beat New Orleans 31-30 in overtime.

Detroit built a 21-0 lead before allowing New Orleans to force overtime. The Lions survived, with Jared Goff finding Amon-Ra St. Brown for the go-ahead touchdown before the Saints missed the two-point conversion.

Speaking to his team in the locker room, Dan Campbell acknowledged that Detroit had plenty to fix. However, he stressed that securing the win mattered the most.

“The biggest thing is right now guys is you find a way to get the win. It’s Week 1, and then you clean this shi* up because it feels a hell of a lot better than the loss to have to clean it up.”

Campbell sent a strong message and reinforced his point before moving on to the game balls.

“That’s the thing, we found a way to win, alright? We will clean this up, and there’s a lot to clean up.”

Amon-Ra St. Brown caught 10 passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns, including the four-yard overtime score that gave Detroit the lead.

Derrick Barnes recorded an interception and a sack, making plays for Detroit’s defense and helping the Lions seize momentum.

Tay Martin earned the third game ball for his special-teams work, including a punt-coverage play.
