The Washington Commanders lost another game to go 3-3 to start the season, and now people are looking for answers on how and if things will even get better moving forward.
There are plenty of fingers to point in the loss to the Chicago Bears, whether it's Jayden Daniels' fumble, the missed tackles, losing the turnover battle, or the slow start again. The bottom line, though, is that this is a game that the Commanders should have won, and this could be a season-altering loss.
Good teams win the games they're supposed to, and head coach Dan Quinn didn't hold back on the team after the loss.
Winning in the NFL isn't easy, as we have seen plenty around the league this season, and you can't afford to give games away like the Commanders did on Monday night. This isn't a new trend, though; they have been their own worst enemy in more games than not this season. The turnovers and slow starts are inexcusable, and Quinn had to address them yet again after the game.
"First thing I thought, you know, don't like it as the start," Quinn said. "We've continued that slow start, and we've become way too accustomed to digging ourselves in a hole too early. Turnovers – one late, all three phases dug the hole, and all three phases helped get out, but we didn't create enough takeaways to finish minus three. You really don't deserve to win many games when you're in that space. So, had chances for interceptions, had chances to get some, but did not create any. Honestly, just didn't perform well enough."

These slow starts have been a conversation every week. Last week, the team was actually able to come back to beat the Los Angeles Chargers, or this season would be in an even worse situation right now. There's no excuse for the poor effort and execution early in the game, and something needs to change.
The Commanders will be tested over the next four weeks with back-to-back road games against the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs, before coming back home against two more tough opponents in the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions. We will see if the Commanders punch back or fold after facing a heartbreaking loss to the Bears that they had in their hands before giving it away.
Heartbreaker for the Commanders, but always appreciate players like Frankie Luvu taking time to speak afterwards.
