Daniel Jones is finding his form with Colts

Daniel Jones is starting to look like the quarterback the New York Giants believed they were drafting with the sixth overall pick back in 2019. Now playing for the Indianapolis Colts, Jones appears ready to rewrite the narrative that has followed him for much of his career.

On Sunday, Jones made his second consecutive start for the Colts, finishing the game 23-of-34 for 316 yards and a touchdown. The box score, however, only tells part of the story. What’s truly notable is how comfortable and confident Jones looks in his new environment.

What's behind Daniel Jones' resurgence with Indianapolis Colts?

The answer seems clear: he finally has the supporting cast he lacked in New York.

When Jones led the Giants to the playoffs in 2022, he had a healthy Saquon Barkley and a system that leaned into his mobility and quick decision-making. Now in Indianapolis, he has Jonathan Taylor — another elite running back — but more importantly, he has what he never had in New York: legitimate receiving threats.

With a trio of Tyler Warren, Michael Pittman Jr. and Taylor (as a receiving option out of the backfield), the Colts present a three-level offensive attack that’s physically tough and strategically versatile. Defenses have to respect the run, watch the intermediate routes, and stay honest deep — all things that open up opportunities for Jones to operate.

Colts HC Shane Steichen's system is shining

Head coach Shane Steichen deserves credit for tailoring the offense to fit Jones' strengths. The Colts have now picked up impressive wins against both the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos, using a blend of creative play-calling and power football to wear teams down.

If Steichen can continue to build game plans that cater to Jones’ skill set — quick reads, play-action, and designed rollouts — there’s no reason the Colts can't keep climbing in a crowded AFC.

Colts' playoff hopes are alive early on

The AFC remains top-heavy, with perennial contenders like the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens, but the Colts are quietly becoming a team that no one will want to face in December.

Jones may not be the star he was once projected to be, but in Indianapolis, he’s proving that with the right system, the right coach, and the right weapons, he can still lead a playoff-caliber team.
