Daniel Jones reacts to report Giants haven't decided on his future

Quarterback Daniel Jones is remaining focused on the task at hand following a report that claimed the New York Giants aren't yet all-in on the 2019 first-round draft pick.

"My mindset has been the same the whole way," Jones said about the topic on Wednesday, per the Giants' official website. "I don't think it changes now just because we're later in the season. I'm going to focus on playing as well as I can, and when the season is over I'll look back and have probably a more complete thought about that. But yeah, just trying to play as well as I can."

For a piece published Tuesday, Newsday's Tom Rock noted that sources said the "Giants have yet to decide what they will do" with Jones this offseason after Big Blue declined the fifth-year option attached to his rookie contract this past spring. It was reported last month that the Giants and Jones' representatives had no contract talks during the bye week.

The Giants have lost three of four games and haven't won since Week 10 back on Nov. 13. 7-5-1 New York plays at the 7-5-1 Washington Commanders this coming Sunday night in a contest that ultimately could determine the postseason fates of the clubs that battled to a 20-20 tie in Week 13.

"I think it's big for all of us," Jones said about the upcoming encounter. "It's not about me, it's not about any one guy, it's about the team, it's about an opportunity we all have to play in the playoffs. The only way we're going to do that is taking care of business one week at a time. That's where we're focused, that's where I'm focused, and we're excited for the opportunity."

According to ESPN stats, Jones is 15th among qualified players with a 91.6 passer rating, 14th with a 56.4 total QBR and 13th with a 66.0% completion percentage on the campaign. The 25-year-old is currently on track to hit free agency when the new league year opens in March 2023. He has tallied 12 touchdown passes in 13 games, is fifth among quarterbacks with 548 rushing yards and has contributed five touchdowns on the ground.
