The Los Angeles Rams made an early splash in free agency when they signed All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year contract.
As the six-time Pro Bowler gets to know Matthew Stafford, he already has some experience with another Rams quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo.
Adams and Garoppolo were teammates on the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, but the two had a falling out as the veteran wide receiver played a role in the signal-caller getting benched that season.
Now that they are reunited on the Rams though, Adams downplayed any animosity with Garoppolo and said they are on good terms, via ESPN Los Angeles:
“I love Jimmy. It was never a personal thing… We got to catch up and get on the right page. Obviously, that was just a dark moment in all of our lives — I think all of us were pretty miserable there. We laugh about it now.”
It’s good to see that Adams and Garoppolo have cleared the air with each other as they begin a new chapter together with the Rams.
While the two have chemistry from their time with the Raiders, the Rams are hoping that Garoppolo never has to throw a pass to Adams this season.
The 33-year-old returned to the team in free agency and is set to back up Stafford for the second consecutive season. He made only one start for L.A. last year, which came in the regular season finale when several starters were held out.
Garoppolo could get some opportunities this season if Stafford struggles to stay on the field. So far in Rams training camp, Garoppolo has been getting first-team reps at quarterback due to Stafford missing some time with back soreness. There is still optimism that Stafford will be ready for Week 1, but the team is being cautious to ensure that is the case.
In the meantime though, Garoppolo is getting plenty of reps in case he is forced into starting duties if Stafford misses time.
When the Rams signed Davante Adams at the start of the offseason, Jimmy Garoppolo said he was excited to reunite with him despite their previous differences in Las Vegas.
“Pumped man. I haven’t seen him in a while, talented receiver. It’ll be fun seeing him again and just getting back on the same page. I’ve seen what he can do before,” Garoppolo said of Adams.
