David Montgomery definitely grew up watching “Even Stevens” and “The Proud Family.”
The Detroit Lions running back Montgomery went viral during Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys for his fantastic touchdown celebration. After finishing off a Lions drive with a one-yard score in the second quarter, Montgomery did a Disney Channel-themed gesture.

That is a nod to some of the classic Disney Channel promos from the 2000s. Those promos would feature characters from the network’s shows saying, “I’m ______ and you’re watching Disney Channel.” They would then use a CGI wand to draw the Mickey Mouse head-shaped logo of Disney Channel.
In a post to their official X page, the Lions confirmed that Disney Channel was indeed the inspiration for Montgomery’s celebration.

The veteran Montgomery was born in 1997, so the timeline definitely checks out. Montgomery also just got some great contract news over the weekend, meaning that there is a lot for him to celebrate right now.
