Former ESPN analyst David Pollack sees the Big 12 race as wide open this fall, but in a recent interview with Heartland College Sports’ Pete Mundo, he identified five programs he believes have the best shot to win the league in 2025.

Pollack’s list includes Arizona State, Texas Tech, Utah, Baylor, and Kansas State.

Pollack praised Arizona State’s roster balance and veteran leadership, noting that the Sun Devils return enough experience on both sides of the ball to make a legitimate run in their second Big 12 season. Texas Tech earned his nod for a combination of offensive firepower and a defense he believes can take another step forward after showing improvement last year.

Utah, entering its second year in the conference, was highlighted for its physical style of play and track record under Kyle Whittingham. Pollack pointed out that the Utes’ ability to control the line of scrimmage could be a deciding factor in tight games. Baylor also made his list, with Pollack citing Dave Aranda’s defensive mind and a veteran group that he feels has been overlooked in preseason discussions.

Rounding out the five was Kansas State, a program Pollack described as one of the most consistent in the league. He pointed to Chris Klieman’s steady hand and a proven ability to compete in big games as reasons the Wildcats can contend again.

Pollack’s assessment underscores the Big 12’s parity heading into 2025. With no clear preseason favorite, the conference title race could come down to depth, health, and the ability to win close games. For fans, it means the path to Arlington is as unpredictable as ever — and the five teams on Pollack’s list may only be part of the story once the season begins.
