Deebo Samuel Sr. has been getting criticism and ridicule from all angles this offseason. Most of it was extremely harsh, but the Washington Commanders' wide receiver is working tirelessly to silence his doubters this summer.
The Commanders got to the front of the queue when most thought Samuel would be released by the San Francisco 49ers. Adam Peters believed enough in the wideout to take on the final year of his contract and send a fifth-round pick to his old employers. It's the definition of a low-risk, high-reward gamble that the versatile pass-catcher is eager to repay.
Conditioning issues have seen slander aplenty directed at Samuel in recent months. A clip at mandatory minicamp went viral and got taken completely out of context, especially considering head coach Dan Quinn lauded the player's explosiveness and speed during his seamless transition to a different environment.
And the hard work didn't stop there. Samuel has been grinding throughout the down period before training camp. He's spent considerable time with respected receivers' coach Route God, and he looks in fantastic shape despite what the doom and gloom merchants are trying to sell.
The latest clip from Samuel's recent workout shows a hungry player looking sharp, agile, and ready to hit the ground running. And for Commanders fans, it only whets the appetite further about what the former second-round pick out of South Carolina could bring to Kliff Kingsbury's offense next season.

The fire has been lit under Samuel. He was cast aside by the Niners. He was lambasted by sections of the media. He was overlooked and almost completely forgotten in conversations about the league's most prolific playmakers. And now, he wants to remind everyone just who he is.
This is great news for the Commanders. Having a motivated and healthy Samuel firing on all cylinders completely changes the dynamic. Once Terry McLaurin's contract extension gets resolved , this could be a phenomenal wideout tandem for second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels to depend upon.
Samuel is using his critics as an extra source of motivation. Whether things became stale or the player became complacent during his final year in San Francisco is up for debate. What isn't up for discussion is his unrivaled desire to ensure the Commanders get a big return on their investment.
If Samuel gets a clear run of luck on the health front, this looks like a match made in heaven. And who knows, it might be the difference between the Commanders falling short and getting over the hump in 2025.
