Their depth in the secondary isn't bad, per se, but it could always get better. The Denver Broncos have the best defensive back in the league, and last year, you could say best defensive player, considering he won Defensive Player of the Year.
However, even so, this is the NFL, and depth in the cornerback room and in the secondary as a whole is extremely vital, especially when you play in the AFC West against teams that have good QBs and very good weapons.
The Broncos are trying to take that next step. They went from a bottom-of-the-league type of team to a team that made the wild card. Now they have to strive for postseason wins. Getting depth is exactly how you do that because you truly never know what will happen during a season.
So, the Broncos are giving a former NFL player and current UFL player a second chance at the biggest football league there is.
Mario Goodrich is a young cornerback who recently played in the United Football League, or the UFL. A former Clemson standout, he helped win the 2018 national championship and earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2021.
Over four college seasons, he played 47 games, recording 84 tackles, 15 pass breakups, and five interceptions, including a pick-six in the 2021 Cheez-It Bowl, where he was named MVP.

Undrafted in 2022, Goodrich joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad, appearing in four games in 2023 with five tackles, but struggled in coverage. Waived by the Eagles in July 2024 and briefly claimed by the New York Giants, he landed with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions in February 2025. Despite an early leg injury, he started five of seven games, tallying 17 tackles, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles.
This signing doesn't mean that he will even make the 53-man roster come August, but it's certainly a sign that they believe in his ability to compete for it.
